medhu vada(urudh dhal vada)

Ingredients:
urudh dhal - 1 cup
salt to taste
pepper corns - 1 tsp
green chillies- 2 or 3

oil for deep frying


soak the urudh dhal for abt 2 hrs
grind it fluffy (for abt 45mts) with pepper and greenchiilies,add salt and mix well.

heat oil in a kadai.
take a Small portion of the the vada in u r hand and pat it with ur fingers and slide them into oil.
alternatively u can try the ready made medu vada press
deep fry till golden brown .

suiyam

its a traditional south Indian sweet spply done on janmashtami

its a sweet dumpling

for the stuffing:
coconut- 1 cup
grated jaggery- 3/4th cup(less or more according to ur sweet taste needs)ghee- 1 tsp
elachi powder- 1/4tsp
for the outer cover batter
rice flour- 1/2 cup
urudh dhal flour- 1 tsp
mix both and make a running batter(in dosa batter consistency)

in a kadai add jaggery and 1/4th cup water ,let it dissolve strain and keep it on stove again.bring it to boil then add coconut and keep stirring till it becomes a thick mass ,add ghee and elachi powder and allow it to cool .this is called thenga pooranam.now divide this pooranam into small balls . u need to dip this in the batter and deep fry it in oil and ur suiyam is ready....

theriti pal - gova

Milk - 8 cups
sugar - 1 cup 
ghee- 1 tsp 

In   a rice cooker add the milk and  let it boil (don't close the lid) its easy way then doing it in  a pan in a stove as u need to keep on stirring it . let it reduce to a thick  yellow paste consistency. now transfer it into a pan and add lil ghee(its mainly for the colour change) and when it thickens switch off the stove and ur pal gova or therti pal is ready. 
i do it for janmashtami as its baby krishna's fav sweet. had left over milk last week so did this  and its my son and hubbies fav too!!!!!!!!


manga pachadi - tamil new yr spl

ingredients

jaggery  grated - 1 cup
raw mango sliced - 1 cup
neem flower fresh - 1 tsp
salt to taste
mustard seeds- 1/2 tsp
methi seeds- 1/2 tsp 
ghee- 1/2 tsp 

mix water with jaggrey and keep aside 
in a  pan add mango pices and  add lil water and let it boil till mangos turn soft,now add the jaggery water and let it boil.in a pana dd lil ghee add musturd seeds,methi seeds and neem flowers and add this to boiling mango-jaggery water,let it boil for another 2 mts and manga pachadi is ready.
we do this for tamil new yrs day 

akara vadisal- sweet rice with jaggery

Ingredients:
1 cup rice
1/2 cup moong dhal
5 cups milk 
1 cup  ghee
jaggery grated - 2 cups 
a pinch of nutmeg and elachi powder
 fried cashew nuts and raisins - 1/4 cup.



pressure cook rice and moong dhal with milk ?(dont add water,use milk  only..) u can add even 1 cup more milk  , let it go for 3 whistle and simmer it for 10mts , once the pressure releases,  open the cooker and mash it nicely,in the meantime  add lil water and add jaggrey and bring to boil?(strain and remove any dust particles) now let it boil for few mts and add this jaggery water to rice +moong dhal and mix well  keep it on stove on simemr and let it boil for few mts then add ghee and mix well ,u can add more ghee also to make it even more rich  ,let it cook in simmer for another 5 -10mts add elachi and nutmeg powder and fried cashew and raisins. 
its just yummylisious!!!!!!!

Neer moru..

we do this for ramanavami ..

 curd - 1 cup
water - 1 ltr
 dry ginger powder - 1 tsp
salt - 1/2 tsp
hing - 1/4tsp
finely chopped green chillies- 1
curry leaves and coriander leaves 
 for tadka - mustard seeds - 1/4 tsp..


  churn the  curd to butter milk add enough water and all other ingredients,mix well,season some mustard seeds .. done  u r butter milk is ready.. healthy too!!!!!!



panagam - health drink


 we do this for ramanavami .. 

Ingredients:
 jaggrey grated - 1 cup
elachi powder - 1/4 tsp
dry ginger powder - 1/2 tsp
pepper powder - 1/2 tsp 
water - 3 - 4 ltrs (depending upon the sweetness of jaggery..)
lemon juice - 1 tsp 

in a bowl take the jaggery add water and let it dissolve ,filter it.. then add elachi powder,pepper powder, dry ginger powder(we call it sukku podi..) and leamon juice.. mix well and have it.. 
it sure tastes yummy!!!!!! :)
